Dealing with the kidnapping of four Israelis in Colombia

In September 2003, four Israeli tourists were kidnapped in northern Colombia by the ELN guerrilla organization. The Israelis were held captive for over three months. General Nir was located  at the military headquarters in Santa Marta and was responsible for the liaison between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Colombian army and the intelligence agencies that were involved in gathering information and negotiating the release of the four. During this period, Nir was greatly appreciated by the president of Colombia, Albero Uribe, and even received a special decoration from the president.
